Home and Garden Articles

We moved into this house just over a decade ago, and when we got here we chose to make several significant repairs and upgrades - anything from the purchase of a new loft ladder to landscaping the garden - all kinds of updates. We re-landscaped the front yard, repaved the driveway, and instead of painting we chose neutral vinyl siding and did the whole house in it. Choosing the siding was deliberate because we wanted it to be more durable than paint and always look cared for and decent. Indeed, the siding has more than met these expectations. But I am wondering whether it was a mistake. For one thing, we weren’t ready to do the roof then, and now we feel locked in to certain colors for roofing when we consider that project. But beyond that, neutral beige is no longer so popular in our neighborhood, and adjacent neighbors have chosen warm, vivid colors. While our neighborhood association might not have permitted such choices back when we moved in, there is a great new look coming about in our little cul-de-sac. I am especially pleased with a purple shaded gray across from us and a barn red kitty-corner to us. Yet to change our style and color would be an enormous project given the siding. We did well choosing the durability of the material, but we forgot that our own taste is not so long-lasting. I would love to make some changes that we can’t make given our previous decisions. |
